Lachlan Radford: double bass
Lachlan Radford completed his undergraduate degree in 2006 at Victoria University. Since this time he has held a position as a double bass intern with the Auckland Philharmonia in 2007. In 2008 he began a professional freelancing career, now having performed with the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, Auckland Philharmonia Orchestra, and Christchurch Symphony Orchestra. Lachlan has performed with 175 East since 2008 and enjoys the regular surprises and beauty that comes from the rehearsals and performances. Among other smaller ensembles Lachlan has performed with the NZ Trio and various chamber concerts in Wellington and Auckland.
Outside of the classical realm Lachlan regularly performs in other genres on double bass, or on his secondary instrument; trombone. He has been involved with several outfits covering genres such as country, jazz, folk, and reggae. Through the APO he has also been involved in programmes such as Remix the Orchestra involving the use of hip-hop and classical music. Lachlan also plays a tenor ukulele for some harmonic joy!
After the completion of his Honours performance degree at Auckland University this year under the tutorship of John Harrison, Lachlan intends to further his studies overseas in 2010.
